Analytical Essay

What should I major in?
Declaring a college major is a crucial decision for most of year one students, including me, because the major leads to promising career choice and has profound impact on our future plan. Among all major courses in College of Science and Engineering, I will be major in Information Engineering. The reasons why I choose Information Engineering are depending on my ability, career prospects and interest.

Firstly, Information Engineering consists of considerable calculations and requires writing some programs to deal with structured problems in our daily life. It would be an obstacle for students studying in this major course if we are unable to cope with diverse mathematics questions. When I was studying in secondary school, I had joined plenty of mathematical competitions such as Hong Kong Mathematical Olympiad Associations and I found pleasure in tackling the mathematical question.
Moreover, some courses in this major need to write programs which underlines the logical and analytical ability. I need to apply our logic to break the problem down and finish it. Therefore, having a good command of mathematics will do help.
I obtained brilliant results in mathematics both in public examination and some courses in CityU in last semester. Mathematical superiority enables me to have better academic background over others.

Apart from my ability, career prospect of the major is an indispensable factor to make decision of declaring major. Information Engineering would provide a solid foundation necessary to embark on a successful career in different sectors such as, Computer Game Programmer, System Administration and Information System. Information Technology is among the seven areas the Government has identified for focused support according to HK Government Press Release. There are more and more increasingly complex technological applications in Hong Kong. The average salary and job vacancy in Hong Kong for information technology specialist has increased gradually in recent years. It reveals personnel with solid technology knowledge are in high demand. Furthermore, the program of Information Engineering has been accredited by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers which is one of the educational requirements for obtaining Charter status. Reciprocal recognition will be received for graduates from the equivalent bodies in different countries like Australia, Canada. Having a professional recognition is, no doubt, a great advantage in job market and will increase our competitiveness. Hence, I would see the brilliant career prospect from major in Information Engineering.

Last but not least, I have an interest to study Information Engineering. I wish I can be a programmer and design series of Apps for people to use. As mentioned, graduates from Information Engineering would embark different sectors such Computer Game Programmer. Writing an App is not an easy task for me, I need to redesign and fix bugs in the App which sometimes are time-consuming. When I finished the App, I found tremendous fun on it even it may spend lots of time. Being a programmer may be a boring job as we need to concentrate on writing codes and fix bugs in the App.
In my spare time, I would go to public library to borrow several books related to mathematics and programming to absorb new knowledge in order to boost technique. Some may think it is too boring but I can read those books for more than six hours and never feel bored. Once I found some useful information, I will mark it down and try to use those new techniques immediately. When studying some courses related to mathematics or programming, I will take the initial to prepare the lecture and finish my tutorial exercises and actively ask questions.

To conclude, taking the aforesaid matters such as ability, career prospects and interest into consideration when declaring major, I do believe the Bachelor of Information Engineering is the best and most suitable pathway to guide my future success. I also wish I would reap rich harvest in my future.

Descriptive Writing

Memories from Temple Street will stay forever in my heart
When the boring day ticks to two o'clock, I go out for a walk. I plod wearily along the
Jordan Road. Looking at the shoal on the street, the rush of matchbox and the
surrounding modern but crowded buildings, I am overjoyed to find that there is still a
traditional street in which is the most inimitable place to be - Temple Street.
Temple Street is renowned and attractive not only for foreigners but also local people,
including me. I, originally, walk around aimlessly but I find I am closer to the
entrance of Temple Street. Since the time is at 2 p.m., the stalls work diligently to
setup for operation. Near my left hand side is the peddler. Without gorgeous
decoration, all the products- mobile accessories are put on the old brown wooden
tables. I am attracted by those decent mobile cases. “Just take a look, the price is
cheap.” overwhelmed through over almost the entire street. I freely pick up two cases
which do not have luxurious packaging or attractive discounts. My hands get a little
dust from one of the cases but I will not make any complaint. Simply from a short
but warm welcoming made by the boss of the stall, I do feel the warmth and it relieves
my nerves. The boss has a little chat with me instead of persuading me to buy his
products. This heartwarming care makes it different from those chilling and
calculating shopping malls. I finally do not buy any cases from the stall but the boss
still say goodbye with kind smile.
The sun is almost down; the sky has beautiful light purple color with pink clouds. The
dark night is coming. I move along. A strong fragrant drifts with the wind as
sandalwood and permeate the entire street. The feeling of hunger is strong enough to
force me walk to that restaurant. I am totally defeated by the smell and walk faster. In
front of the restaurant, I find the fragrance is from claypot rice. I gaze at charcoal
stoves with old iron wire and its bricked rep look. The traditional claypot rice served
with testable Chinese sausage draw all attention of the people on the street. I am glad
that I do not need to eat at monotonous chain restaurants. During my dinner, the cool
air of the night quickly fades away.
The sky is sheltered by surrounding modern buildings and getting much darker than
before. The light, however, from the corner on the street is being brighter. The mist
guides me the way to come and back, and it is the time for me to leave. I believe that
one day Hong Kong is still here, the temple street will be still there as it is the most
inimitable place to be. Whatever this street will be rebuild, memories from this
invaluable street will stay forever in my heart.
